The master perfumer opens up about the inspiration behind the Maison's new fragrance, his creative process, and his favourite #stayhome scent

Last year,&nbsp;Louis Vuitton&nbsp;introduced a series of&nbsp;Les Colognes perfumes inspired by the carefree vibes of summertime in California&nbsp;&mdash;&nbsp;Sun Song,&nbsp;an ode to sunshine;&nbsp;Cactus Garden, a walk across an&nbsp;exotic patio; and&nbsp;Afternoon Swim, a dive into the ocean.

If there was&nbsp;one thing missing within the series, though, it would&nbsp;be the mesmerising colour of a Californian sunset.

But this summer, Louis Vuitton completes its Les Colognes line with the new&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/beauty/louis-vuitton-s-latest-unisex-fragrance-is-inspired-by-the-californian-sunset">California Dream</a>, a genderless scent to illuminate the enchanting sunsets of the Golden State.&nbsp;

Just like the ever-changing sky at sundown,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/beauty/louis-vuitton-s-latest-unisex-fragrance-is-inspired-by-the-californian-sunset">California Dream</a>&nbsp;is full of wonder, with a heart of mandarin that is layered with ambrette, musk, and vanilla-tinged benzoin.&nbsp;

The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and artist&nbsp;Alex Israel&nbsp;(<a href="https://www.instagram.com/alexisrael" target="_blank">@alexisrael</a>) continues with this fragrance, too.&nbsp;Inspired by the artist&#39;s series&nbsp;&ldquo;Sky Backdrop&rdquo;, the glass bottle captures the multi-coloured&nbsp;sky in&nbsp;transparent pink fading into twilight blue, while the travel case is&nbsp;designed with Israel&#39;s&nbsp;signature wave painting.&nbsp;

How did you capture&nbsp;the mood of a West Coast sunset in&nbsp;your fragrance? Was it based on a&nbsp;particular moment in your&nbsp;past travels there?

California and Los Angeles are my second home.&nbsp;I love the sunset in Malibu near the ocean&mdash; I love the mix of blue and pink colours, it evokes&nbsp;freshness and softness. One day, it was the perfect balance, I could smell it, and California Dream&nbsp;was born!

Do you have any particular memory of sunsets and what they mean to you?

Sunset is a very special moment, you have the energy of the day and the promise&nbsp;of the evening.&nbsp;I like&nbsp;this moment, when something is finishing and another&nbsp;is at the beginning.

How long was the process of creation? Did you already have it in mind when you launched the other 3 Les Colognes in 2019?

It took me one year. In fact, I&nbsp;was in Los Angeles introducing the first three Les Colognes when I started to create&nbsp;California Dream.

Which comes first when you embark on the development of your next fragrance? The raw materials or the concept behind it?

First, it&rsquo;s the emotion(s). Then, the raw materials, and finally, the concept. It&nbsp;can be a very short sequence.

&nbsp;

What is your #stayhome scent during this period of controlled movement?

I am blessed to live in a wonderful place near Grasse and Cannes, surrounded by lots of trees and flowers.&nbsp;I can smell roses in the morning, for example.&nbsp;I also have&nbsp;my private atelier with&nbsp;all my samples of raw materials, so I am still connected to creativity, maybe even more than before!
