SK-II’s latest addition to its iconic Facial Treatment range has already sold out, and it’s easy to see why.

Some skincare products come and go, while others become part of your routine for years. For me, SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence has always been the latter.
I was first introduced to it by my mother. I remember watching her religiously pat the essence into her skin morning and night, long before I had much interest in skincare myself. So, when I received my first proper pay cheque from my first job, my “big girl” splurge was a bottle of Facial Treatment Essence. And just like that, my Pitera journey began.
For decades, SK-II has been synonymous with luminous skin and its iconic ingredient, Pitera. Made from rice through the brand’s patented fermentation process, Pitera is the star of the Facial Treatment Essence and is often dubbed “miracle water” for its brightening and skin-conditioning benefits.
So when SK-II announced a new addition to the Facial Treatment family, I was curious.

The brand has introduced new technology alongside its signature Pitera. At the heart of the formula is a combination of Pitera and Boosting Oil Beads, with 16,000 micro-beads designed to gently burst on contact with the skin. The beads dissolve into a lightweight, refreshing texture that absorbs quickly, helping to lock in Pitera’s benefits while leaving skin looking plump, radiant and firm.
And despite the words “oil beads”, don’t expect a heavy or greasy serum. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it sank into my skin, feeling almost as light as a water-based serum. It leaves behind a natural, healthy-looking glow rather than an oily finish, which makes it particularly appealing if you have combination or oily skin.
There’s another bonus too. If you’re not a fan of the distinctive fermented scent of the Facial Treatment Essence, the new serum has a much more pleasant fragrance. I personally don’t mind the scent of the essence, but this was a welcome change.

Judging by the response so far, it certainly has a good chance.
At a recent pop-up celebrating the launch, customers were quick to get their hands on the new serum. It has since completely sold out, with a waiting list of eager customers waiting for the next restock.
Priced at SGD 218 for 30ml and SGD 326 for 50ml, it’s undoubtedly an investment. But given the generational following behind Pitera and the Facial Treatment Essence, the instant demand isn’t exactly surprising.
For me, what makes the Facial Treatment Serum interesting is that it feels like a natural next step for a product line I’ve known for years. It still has the familiar Pitera at its heart, but with a lighter texture and new technology that gives it something of its own.
