Television’s favourite season is here and it did not disappoint. Here’s all you need to know about what went down at the Emmys last night. 

Ask anyone pop-culture enthusiast about the Emmys and you&rsquo;re guaranteed to hear the following words: The Crown, Ted Lasso, The Queen&rsquo;s Gambit, WandaVision, and Michaela Coel. It&rsquo;s safe to say that television&rsquo;s favourite awards season did not stray from its usual spectacle this year, with Hollywood&rsquo;s finest celebrities sitting in hot seats awaiting for their names and shows to be declared winners.&nbsp;

This year, series&nbsp;like &lsquo;The Crown&rsquo;, &lsquo;Ted Lasso&rsquo;, and &lsquo;The Queen&rsquo;s Gambit&rsquo; swept categories with their winning streaks. The formula of success, it seems, is a strong ensemble taking on a niche plot. Are we surprised by the wins? Going by the audience reception to the titles after their debut, perhaps not.&nbsp;

On the contrary, the much-hyped about Marvel series &lsquo;WandaVision&rsquo; missed out on this winning streak, shocking fans everywhere with their losses. The show won no major awards in its 23 categories even after its predicted wins by television critiques and audiences. In all honesty, the biggest snub out of the lot was most definitely Kathryn Hahn&rsquo;s performance as Agatha Harkness.&nbsp;

One of the best moments of the night is tied to British actress, screenwriter, director, producer and singer Michaela Coel &mdash; most notable for her roles in &lsquo;Chewing Gum&rsquo;, &lsquo;Black Mirror&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Black Earth Rising&rsquo;. Last night, Coel became the first black woman to win the Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for her HBO limited series &lsquo;I May Destroy You&rsquo;: A project she created, wrote, co-directed and starred in.&nbsp;

Coel received a well-deserved standing ovation for her moving Emmys speech. &ldquo;Write the tale that scares you, that makes you feel uncertain, that isn&rsquo;t comfortable. I dare you,&rdquo; says Coel. &ldquo;Visibility these days seems to somehow equate to success. Do not be afraid to disappear from it, from us for a while, and see what comes to you in the silence. I dedicate this story to every single survivor of sexual assault.&rdquo;
