The Spanish luxury fashion house returns to the annual photography festival PHotoESPAÑA for the ninth time. 

Art has been the synonym for the Spanish luxury fashion house&nbsp;ever since its establishment of the Loewe Foundation in 1988, armed with a&nbsp;mission&nbsp;to promote creativity, promoting&nbsp;educational programs and to safeguard heritage in the fields of poetry, dance, photography, art and craft.&nbsp;

For its 9th participation in the annual photography festival PHotoESPANA, the festival will be taking place in the home of Loewe - Madrid. Taking the spotlight of the annual event&nbsp;is no other than French artist, Herve Guibert, who is widely known for using his art to raise awareness about pressing ethical issues surrounding freedom and justice.&nbsp;

The exhibition features photographs taken by the French artist, from layered self-portraits,&nbsp;pictures of friends to intimate still life shots. Mostly shot in black-and-white, the composition of these pictures is what makes it stand out from other works.&nbsp;Guibert first became known for authoring a photography column in the French newspaper Le Monde from 1977 through 1985, as well as for extensive writings in which he exposed the devastating effects of his AIDS diagnosis at a time when &mdash; even in his progressive home-country &mdash; discourse around the subject was heavily stigmatised.

The Loewe Foundation has shown great interest in&nbsp;creating consciousness around instances of intolerance and marginalisation that &mdash; along with the danger of losing hard-won liberties &mdash; persist around the world today, even in more advanced societies.&nbsp;

For 2019, the curator, Maria Mill&aacute;n, shifted her gaze to Europe, examining an artist who also embodies an unremitting awareness of self, expressed through the intertwined spectres of life and death, which gives lasting universal validity to his experience.

The exhibition takes place in Madrid all summer from 5 June to 1 September 2019. All&nbsp;prints are authorised by the artist&rsquo;s estate on loan from la Maison Europ&eacute;enne de la Photographie. Get a glimpse of it below:&nbsp;
