After the success of Saltburn, Emerald Fennell returns to the big screen with a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, Emily Bront&euml;&rsquo;s enduring novel. She entrusts the roles of Catherine and Heathcliff to Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

Fresh from Promising Young Woman (2020) and the box-office hit Saltburn (2023), Fennell writes, directs, and produces a project that aims to capture the raw force of Catherine and Heathcliff&rsquo;s passion through a modern lens. Last year she shared a cryptic first teaser, a simple drawing paired with the famous line, &ldquo;Be with me always. Take any form, drive me mad.&rdquo; It hinted at an adaptation that would respect the original while speaking to the present.

The film, which follows the obsessive and ruinous bond between Catherine Earnshaw and the Byronic figure Heathcliff, now has its first full trailer. Set to Charli XCX&rsquo;s &ldquo;Everything is Romantic&rdquo;, the images move across Yorkshire&rsquo;s moors, alive with desire, danger, and shadow. This is not a straightforward return to Bront&euml;&rsquo;s 1847 novel. It is a visual and narrative experiment that reshapes the material into something sensual and unsettling, in keeping with the director&rsquo;s taste for excess, exposure, and emotional vertigo.

The early footage presents a montage of mist-soaked landscapes and domestic rituals mixed with erotic tension: hands kneading dough, bodies slick with sweat, corsets drawn tight. It is a sensory grammar that recasts the gothic tale in physical terms. The cast extends well beyond the leading pair, with Hong Chau as Nelly Dean, the story&rsquo;s caretaker and narrator, Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton, and Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton. The plot also includes younger versions of the characters, played by Owen Cooper as the teenage Heathcliff, Charlotte Mellington as young Catherine, and Vy Nguyen as young Nelly.

The project sparked a heated bidding war. Netflix reportedly offered 150 million dollars, but Warner Bros. ultimately secured the rights for a smaller sum, guaranteeing global distribution. The film will be released in cinemas worldwide on 13 February 2026, the eve of Valentine&rsquo;s Day. Produced by MRC and LuckyChap, Margot Robbie&rsquo;s company behind both Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, Wuthering Heights positions itself not just as another adaptation but as a work that tests the limits of melodrama. It promises a visual and emotional epic that turns one of the most widely read novels in history into a contemporary tale of desire, power, and defiance.
