From Anne Hathaway in Atelier Versace to Zendaya’s show-stopping hot pink look, the stars came dressed to impress on the blue carpet

The 2020 awards season is officially in full swing, with the second major ceremony of the year having taken place on Sunday &ndash; the 25th annual Critics&rsquo; Choice Awards Already of particular significance because it often predicts who will go on to win at the Oscars, this time around the CCA upped the ante by doing what the other shows could not: giving recognition to a more diverse body of talent, such as women and people of colour. Nominations took account of otherwise overlooked films and TV shows, like Zendaya in Euphoria, Lupita Nyong&rsquo;o in Us, and Greta Gerwig for Little Women.

Once again hosted by Taye Diggs, who kicked off the show with a charming song and dance number, the big winners of the night included Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, Ren&eacute;e Zellweger for Judy, and Laura Dern for Marriage Story, while Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gained the Best Picture Award, and in a shock twist, Sam Mendes and Bong Joon Ho tied for Best Director. Eddie Murphy took home the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Kristen Bell received the #SeeHer Award, an opportunity she used to deliver a heart-warming and inspiring speech on womanhood and self-acceptance. &ldquo;To me, being a woman isn&rsquo;t about being strong or being brave or being powerful. It isn&rsquo;t about being anything specific. It is just about giving yourself permission to be the things you already are.&rdquo;

There was no dearth of memorable looks on the red &ndash; sorry, blue &ndash; carpet as the stars came dressed to impress. Bold shades of pink, yellow, and orange delivered drama in spades, as did power suits, capes, and plunging necklines. Charlize Theron looked every inch the bombshell in a shimmering silver number from Celine, while Anne Hathaway flaunted her growing bump in a glittering gold gown by Atelier Versace. Cynthia Erivo chose a flowing geometric print Fendi dress, while Gwendoline Christie rocked a Dior Men&rsquo;s suit (again). Billy Porter lived up to his red carpet reputation with a dual-toned Hogan McLaughlin jumpsuit, which he accessorised with multiple butterfly tattoos to honour the transgender community, and Zendaya set Twitter abuzz with a hot pink breast plate from Tom Ford.
