Jeremy Scott takes on the Year of the Rat with his signature sense of humour, turning the spotlight on cult cartoon figure Mickey Rat as the star of the new capsule

Trust Moschino to come up with a Chinese New Year collection that is both delightful and slightly diabolical. Creative director Jeremy Scott lends his signature sense of humour to the celebrations with a tongue-in-cheek (or shall we say, tongue-in-chic?) take on the Year of the Rat, headlined by the cult cartoon figure Mickey Rat. Conceived as a parody of the mouse that shares his name, Mickey Rat unreservedly embodies the irreverent vivacity that is the hallmark of the Italian house.

With a louche smile and a wicked gleam in his eyes, the cartoon character features on a variety of apparel and accessories in eye-catching combinations of red, black, and white, largely influenced by varsity athletic silhouettes. For women, the pieces include a sequined mini skirt, oversized cardigan, zip-up hoodie, and dresses in knit, jersey, and fleece fabrics, while men can choose from sweatshirts, joggers, bomber jackets, t-shirts, and more. To complement the ready-to-wear selection, there are also phone cases, striped crew socks, a leather clutch, an embroidered backpack, a baseball cap, and a pair of high-top sneakers.

To complement the ready-to-wear selection, there are also phone cases, striped crew socks, a leather clutch, an embroidered backpack, a baseball cap, and a pair of high-top sneakers.

The collection is brought to life by Scott and fellow creative Mia Kong in an avant-garde digital look book, photographed by New York-based photographer Shxpir Huang. Kong herself and male model Jun Kai Qi star in the shoot, which plays with conventional Chinese New Year elements like red packets, peach blossoms, mahjong, and lion dancers.
