Conversations over Coffee: Jay Chou talks Paris, Dior memories, and meeting Kim Jones
We caught up with the King of Mandopop before the Dior Fall/Winter 2025 Men's show in Paris.
As the reigning King of Mandopop, Jay Chou needs no introduction. For over two decades, the singer, musician, actor and director has captivated fans globally with his undeniable talent, earning his place as one of the most influential figures not only in music — but in the entire entertainment industry. In 2023, he was appointed as the global ambassador of Dior, further solidifying his status as a cultural icon.
Ahead of the Dior Fall/Winter 2025 Men’s show in Paris, Jay Chou sat down with L'OFFICIEL for an exclusive interview over a cuppa. From his favourite spots in the City of Lights to the staple songs on his playlist, the global star shared a glimpse into his world.
How does it feel to be back in Paris this time? Do you have any go-to spots?
Returning to Paris feels like reconnecting with something familiar. The streets, the scenes — it all comes rushing back, especially since I’ve filmed an MV here before. This time, though, my stay is shorter, so I’m cherishing every moment. I’ve been cycling around in the evenings and taking long walks by myself, even venturing all the way to the Marais district.
What excites you the most right now? Could you share any upcoming plans?
I’m really excited to have the opportunity to chat with the designer before the show. Usually, there are so many people at these events that you just snap a quick photo with the designer and move on. This time, I get to talk to them beforehand, and I hope this leads to more collaborations in the future.
Can you share your playlist? What kind of music do you usually listen to?
I actually listen to my own music most of the time, sometimes revisiting my older songs. Recently, I’ve written quite a few new tracks, so to be honest, I’ve been listening to my own work almost exclusively. I also just released a new song, and I’ve been playing it on repeat lately.
What’s the most memorable moment from your collaboration with Dior?
The most unforgettable moment would have to be my concert at Taipei Dome, where I wore two custom-made Dior outfits. It was incredibly meaningful to me and felt like such a special highlight.
What are you most looking forward to at Dior’s Winter 2025 Menswear Show?
I’m really looking forward to seeing the new collection, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to wear some of the pieces during my concerts. I know the designers are always pushing boundaries and evolving, which resonates with how I approach music. The show’s about to start, and I can’t wait!
