The luxury house introduces a new handbag shape for Spring/Summer 2020, called the ID93 in tribute to the minimalism and sophistication of the 1990s

The 1990s were some of the best years in history, period. Whether it was in fashion, music, film, or just life in general, there is no doubt that the &lsquo;90s ruled. Clare Waight Keller would certainly agree. The artistic director of Givenchy has such an attachment to the decade that she even named an entire season after it. Titled NY Paris 1993, the maison&rsquo;s Spring/Summer 2020 collection draws on Keller&rsquo;s own cross-cultural experiences during that fateful year when she first moved to the Big Apple, playing on the contrast between the raw, tomboyish energy of New York and the ruffled, more feminine Parisian style. Key to the collection is a new handbag design, similarly dedicated to the era of minimalism and fluid shapes, and dubbed the ID93. &nbsp;

Complementing the soft attitude and oversized volumes of the ready-to-wear selection, the ID93 features a supple yet structured silhouette, easily distinguished by the cousu retourn&eacute; straps &ndash; twisted, braided, and stitched by hand &ndash; that twine around the bag like an oh-so-nineties flower crown. Rendered in ultra-soft calf leather and hand-woven raffia, the ID93 comes in two variations and a wide range of colours, from classic black, grey, and red to chessboard checks to deep claret, buttercup yellow, and light teal hues.

Subtle embellishments add an extra touch of refinement to the bag, like the finely-stitched chevrons on some versions, and the Givenchy chain motif on others, reproduced via precise perforations or diagonal embroidery. Knot details, an elongated leather pull, and the signature 2G logo wrapped in calfskin further underscore the urbanity of the design. And with a roomy main compartment, open side pockets, and interchangeable shoulder straps, the ID93 serves up a double punch of style and practicality, meaning it really is all that and a bag of chips. &nbsp;
