Bold prints, kick flares and highlights: Prada's collection was a tribute to fashion's favourite era of the moment

On May 4, Prada unveiled its 2019 Resort collection in New York at The Piano Factory,&nbsp;the building that houses Prada&#39;s Headquarters&nbsp;in the city. The transformation of the old piano factory was the first project Prada commissioned from the Herzog &amp; de Meuron office in 2000. The architectural elements were removed, leaving only the original concrete structure.

THE VENUE

&nbsp;

The runway show took place on the 7th floor, where the original structure of the building was maintained. The space featured&nbsp;semi-transparent panels that reflected an urban landscape through the&nbsp;windows, using real images of the city as the backdrop&nbsp;of the show. The result was an intriguing mix between the internal and external environments, a mix of analog and virtual realities.

The show began at 6:30 p.m., sunset time in New York. The main colours of the space were silver, black and red. The red panels, together&nbsp;with the lighting system installed in the windows, generated an atmosphere that complemented the colour of the sunset.

THE COLLECTION&nbsp;

The show&nbsp;opened with elongated silhouettes of transparent chiffon skirts accompanied by tricot tops and tailormade overlays, recalling looks from Prada&#39;s collections&nbsp;in the &#39;90s. That&#39;s not all: Miuccia Prada also brought back her other iconic motifs from that era including prints, kick flares, stacked-heel loafers and heavy-gauge tights. Tones&nbsp;of mint green and light blue&nbsp;as well as touches of mustard and brown gave the collection an air of sophistication.

Let&#39;s not forget another obvious trend from the &#39;90s that Miuccia Prada revived for the&nbsp;show: highlights, &agrave;&nbsp;la Britney Spears in her music video Baby One More Time. The dyed locks peeked out from under many a&nbsp;trapper hat&nbsp;with earflaps on the runway.&nbsp;According to hairstylist <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/prada-resort-2019-beauty-90s-chunky-highlights-hair-messy-eye-makeup-guido-palau-pat-mcgrath">Guido Palau</a>, the models&#39; looks were &quot;inspired by the woman that takes beauty into her [own] hands.&quot; Prada had &#39;90s It Girl Chlo&euml; Sevigny in mind as one of her muses when she conceived the look, which explains why the actress was also invited to view the&nbsp;collection.
