Cartier's Toussaint Necklace is the Real Star of the Ocean's 8 Film
We’re less than a month away from the release of Ocean’s 8, a.k.a. the biggest movie of the summer (no, we’re not counting the superhero ones). You probably already know the premise of the latest addition to the Ocean’s franchise: an ex-convict gathers an all-female crew of specialists to pull off a grand heist at the annual Met Gala in New York.
You definitely know the film’s star-studded cast, which includes actresses Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, and oh, did we mention Rihanna?
But let’s not forget the one thing that ties the film together — the spectacular Jeanne Toussaint necklace, which is the target of the group’s robbery. The featured necklace is actually a High Jewelry replica specially created by the luxury brand Cartier.

The Jeanne Toussaint necklace is named after Cartier’s Creative Director in the 1930s, who was considered to be the first woman to embody the Maison’s bold and fearless spirit. Its design, meanwhile, was borrowed from a necklace made in 1931 by Jacques Cartier for the Maharaja of Nawanagar.
The original was nothing short of stunning; described as “the finest cascade of coloured diamonds in the world," it featured the exceptional blue-white Queen of Holland diamond which weighed 136.25 carats. It’s no wonder that the necklace was chosen to be at the centre of the Ocean’s 8 plot.

Just for the film, Cartier replicated the necklace by referencing drawings and photographs from its archives. The Maison called on its best jewellers at its High Jewelry workshops in Paris, who remarkably completed the copy in eight weeks. The best part? It fit actress Anne Hathaway’s neck perfectly.
The Jeanne Toussaint necklace was not the only Cartier creation featured in Ocean's 8, though. Jewellery pieces from the Maison's Cartier Collection and High Jewelry collection, as well as watches and accessories, all make an appearance during scenes of the Met Gala in the film — much like they did for real at this year's ball.
