The Oscar-winning actress showcases the duality of the modern woman in a series of gender-blurring portraits

With one Academy Award and three Golden Globes under her belt, it&#39;s safe to say that&nbsp;Jennifer Lawrence is a brilliant actress. The Red Sparrow&nbsp;star&nbsp;has pulled off playing&nbsp;everything from a shape-shifting blue mutant to a bow-wielding&nbsp;dystopian heroine, which is probably why Dior Artistic Director&nbsp;Maria Grazia Chiuri has picked the actress to&nbsp;venture into&nbsp;gender-blurring territory for the new Dior Fall 2018 campaign.

Shot by&nbsp;French photographer&nbsp;Brigitte Lacombe once again &mdash; the pair had previously worked together for Dior&#39;s Fall 2017 campaign &mdash; Lawrence poses&nbsp;against a spare setting with her hair neatly tied up in a bun, while dressed in&nbsp;the Maison&#39;s collection of&nbsp;coats, jackets, buttoned shirts and pants.&nbsp;

Born Lucy Schwob, the genderfluid French artist succeeds&nbsp;Niki Saint Phalle on Maria Grazia Chiuri&#39;s&nbsp;list of creative and empowered female muses.&nbsp;

Like Saint Phalle,&nbsp;Claude Cahun&nbsp;was ahead of her time. In the 1920s, she explored gender and identity through&nbsp;a series of&nbsp;compelling self portraits in which&nbsp;she portrayed and embodied tropes of conventional masculinity. It was these images that inspired the new Dior campaign, where&nbsp;Lawrence&#39;s androgynous appearance&nbsp;reflects Cahun&#39;s sentiments on femininity:&nbsp;&quot;Shuffle the cards. Masculine? Feminine? It depends on the situation.&quot;

The sombre portraits were inspired by Surrealist artist, Claude Cahun.

The collection also takes cues from menswear.
